The New e-Lite

GOT a problem? We'll fix it-fast, promises Saumil Majumdar, 38, CEO, qsupport.net, a 2-month-old Website that serves up on-line support solutions for pc- and Web-users. Having extended his learn@home.com, a personalised PC-user training company into this innovative venture, Majumdar swears he can debug double-quick. Speed × Content = the No. 1 PC doctor?

TRUST a bunch of MBA students to go ahead and develop a management site (mba-world.com). But IIM-Calcutta's Class-of-2000ers, Varun Bajpai, 24, and Sandeep Bhat, 25, weren't really expecting to attract a rush of companies-like Allahabad Bank, ICICI, Mahindra-BT, Citibank, and Microland-eager to fund the venture. Perhaps that has something to do with the one-stop shop in knowledge management having a placement cell. Beats going back to B-school, doesn't it?

SIMARPRIT Singh doesn't believe in putting all his eggs in one basket. In 1999, the CEO of Compare Infobase developed 10 Websites-including the content-rich mapsofindia.com-which, between them, get 4 million hits per month. The 34-year-old Singh's logic: split the risk, and account for variations. It's working-for now. His latest, 2000fair.com, celebrated the New Year.

AFTER Planetasia.com, V.S. Sudhakar, 40, is now fine-tuning an outsourcing model at Fabmart, India's first on-line music store. By integrating its network and software with producers, distributors, and wholesalers of music, Fabmart is outsourcing everything. This 8-employee-yes, just 8-firm hopes to replicate this model with other products too. But only if the music sounds right.

WORKING around the connectivity issue is Dinesh Agarwal, 30, the CEO of indiamart.com. His idea is to make the medium work for a businessperson who does not have a connection to the Net, or even own a PC. How? Well, by providing free listing and free query forwarding services to Indian businesses. He's now targeting hotels in remote areas. The benefit: potential e-friends for life.
