BT: A number of internet companies are still trying to figure out B2B, B2C, C2C, and a whole lot of other models. Dell is a very good example of an efficient B2B and B2C rolled into one. So, if you were to advise the largest companies on their strategies for the internet, what would your advice be? Dell: The opportunities offered by e-Commerce include increased profit margins, shorter selling cycles, higher consumer satisfaction, rapid customer service, greater accuracy, higher productivity, lower costs, faster time to market, and research and development. E-commerce is not merely selling goods on the internet. E-commerce is the integration of the Web with Infotech, connecting millions of computers and people all over the world. Apart from more prevalent applications, such as e-mail, news and entertainment, the internet is revolutionising the business world. The biggest benefit of commerce over internet is the ability to reach the end-customer directly. Doing business on the internet has less to do with making payments and more to do with direct relationship with customers, cutting down inventories, eliminating errors, and working faster. BT: Figures, as in increased turnover, I guess, would have become meaningless for you now. But what new things are you planning which will make Dell grow faster and become a better/larger company? What will Dell look like three-five years from now? Dell: Though I believe that the launch of our direct model in India will help Dell grow faster and become a better company, Dell is always on the lookout for new opportunities. It's difficult to say what Dell will look like in three-five years but we are confident that our growth and improvement will continue. Our virtual integration with suppliers, partners, Dell Ventures companies, and customers ensures that we stay in touch with the trends in the marketplace. There are many infotech trends right now---dramatic increases in bandwidth, the fluidity of information across boundaries, opportunities for less friction and transaction costs, and the productivity increases associated with mobility. Dell is committed to offering technologies that allow our customers to remain flexible and take advantage of these trends. Our commitment to industry---and open-standard technologies, a modular approach to scaling, and to the internet unleashed through integrated wireless in notebooks are all examples of how Dell is helping our customers stay agile in time of great change. We're very excited about the future. |
