LEADERSHIP SECRETS
Adjust, Adapt, & Change

A leader is one who inspires the
organisation to zoom ahead. his success can be measured by a variety of
yardsticks, like the return on shareholder investments. Some would
consider the organisation being voted by its employees as a great place to
work as the ultimate compliment for the leader. The satisfaction of the
company's clients with regard to the products or services provided, is
another yardstick to measure the leader's effectiveness.
Leadership is all about focusing on the
objectives of the organisation and the well-being of its employees. A
leader should essentially be a team player. Teams bring together
individuals with widely divergent skills. A team leader should be able to
both fuel and guard the shared vision of his team. He should encourage
out-of-the-box thinking, be in touch with the market, and of course,
possess the highest integrity. A leader should be able to motivate himself
as well as his team.
Leaders build excellence. Excellence is
''being all you can be'' within the bounds of doing what is right for the
organisation. An effective leader needs to get employees to trust him and
believe in the organisation's vision. The vision must make an impact on
their sense of accomplishment and motivate them to work better. After all,
today's organisations need people who can learn quickly on their job. For
this, a leader has to be effective in whatever he communicates. But that
does not mean that he merely talks; instead, he has to follow what he
preaches, thereby setting an example for others.
We live in a world that is changing faster
than ever before. In this context, a leader needs to develop the ability
to continually live with, and manage change. One can always plan and
strategise at leisure, but real leadership lies in the ability to change
course midway, and quickly, if the situation demands it.
