Douglas Nielson, Chief Country Officer, Deutsche Bank, India, speaks to BT Online on what the bank has in mind for India, particularly its plans in the asset management arena. Equity research, as Nielson says, will emerge as a key differentiating factor in this business, and that's exactly what Deutsche is working on.

The Sign Of Three

True leadership is all about unconditional giving. This sense of giving has to be balanced towards all the constituents who need to be served by an organisation. The first in line is the customer or the buyer. At Domino's we are unconditionally committed to giving the customer the right quality at the right price, even if some of the customers may not be all that demanding, because I believe this builds trust. And that is the first goal I try to achieve as leader of Domino's in relationship to my environment.

  The Community Spirit

The second constituent is the employee who enables the leader to service the customer. While most of us work to achieve a budget, it is only a larger vision that inspires the team to stretch and reach out for what is beyond ones current skills and that is what one could find being applied at Domino's. This only 'wows' the customers experience in dealing with the organisation. Also, it tests the ability of the leader to provide 'situational leadership'. Since people are different and situations are different the leader has to be tough, patient or compassionate depending on the situation.

The third constituent is the investor. It is the leader's responsibility to ensure that all the investors get their dues for the risks they have taken. That alone will ensure that the organisation will have a continuing flow of funds for all its growth plans.

A balance between the three will help a leader build a robust institution, which consistently provides joy for all the three constituents. I apply the same formula at Domino's to bring a smile on the face of all the three constituents and fill their life with fun and excitement.
