The Inspiration Factor

The responsibility of the leader is to ensure that all team members stay focussed and motivated to get their individual jobs done. Coordinating individual performances that would bring rich dividends to the company is the job of a leader. The best style of leadership is the one where the team members believe that they are empowered to do their jobs, and know well what their larger responsibilities, besides individual goals, demand. A good leader will always inspire, never intimidate.

  Going By The Book

  Never Too Many
  I, Me, Myself

One of the biggest challenges a leader faces is that of managing individual egos. This is a peculiar problem in high-pressure organisations, where the workplace is full of brilliant individuals, each with an excellent track-record and an achiever in his or her own right. Here, the leader's role is to ensure that each individual works as a member of the team. The leader must always ensure that all feedback or criticism is always professional and never personal.

The other important challenge for a leader is to ensure that he is seen as one who has the ability to think logically even under the most trying conditions. This helps not just in resolving external issues but also in simplifying internal ones. Conviction is very important, because lack of conviction in the leader leads to the team losing its morale.

A sense of humour helps since it conveys confidence apart from making a leader's interactions with the members of his team congenial. A leader should project confidence and conviction. This is the key to winning the trust of his team. And a team that has confidence in its leadership is a team that delivers consistently high performance.
